The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter is taking applications for the Al-Qasimi PhD Studentship in Arab and Islamic Studies in 2021. The three available PhD studentships for exceptional PhD candidates are in areas of specialisation which fit and supplement the research interests of its academics.

It is seeking for PhD proposals in humanities and the social sciences with centered around the Middle East and the Islamicate world. This can cover Archaeology, Anthropology, History, Gender Studies, International Relations, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Literature, and other relevant disciplines. This year, it is particularly interested in getting proposals related to the theme ‘Islam in China’. It also welcomes approaches that look to improve decolonial modes of knowledge production.

Worth of Al-Qasimi PhD Studentship

International tuition fees and a yearly maintenance stipend at present Research Council rate of £15,285 (for 2020/21 entry) each year.

Eligibility for Al-Qasimi PhD Studentship at University of Exeter

  • You are required to have or anticipate to attain a minimum of a 2:1 Honours degree, or foreign equivalent, in any relevant humanities or social sciences field and will typically hold or presently be working towards a Master’s degree at Merit level, or foreign equivalent, in relevant humanity or social science discipline.
  • Candidates should not already be enrolled on a PhD program.
  • If the English language is not your first language you will have to fulfill the English language criteria and offer evidence of proficiency.
