While primarily focusing on undergraduate programs, Laurentian also boasts of the east campus of Canada’s latest medical school—the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, which began operations in 2005.

Laurentian’s school of Graduate Studies delivers a number of postgraduate-level degree programs. The school is the biggest multilingual provider of distance learning in Canada.

The Laurentian University’s campus can be found on the south side of Ramsey Lake, south of Greater Sudbury’s city centre core in the Bell Grove area. The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area comprises a network of tracks used for running, mountain biking and nordic skiing.

The university has a school system that is confederated, just like that of the University of Toronto. The institution also boasts two distinct student unions (along with the part-time and graduate student associations).
